Fort Sewall Beach

Named for the iconic and historic fort that it’s next to, this place is a must for both beachgoers and history buffs! Known for being a fishing hotspot, locals have been casting their lines from this beach for decades. The shacks where they keep their equipment are decorated with various fishing equipment, a charming addition that pays tribute to an area steeped in fishing culture. You can watch the boats go out into the harbor, catch the fading colorful rays near sunset, and take it all in from the warm sands. One of the most accessible beaches in the area at just half a mile from the inn.

Gas House Beach

A local favorite mostly known only to nearby residents, this small beach is a wonderful place to set up for a quiet picnic, beach reading, or just some quality time away from the crowds. Like Fort Sewall, it’s around half a mile from Harbor Light Inn and is simple to reach by walking, the perfect escape with beautiful views of the harbor. It is by far one of the best beaches in Marblehead, MA!

Devereux Beach

Marblehead’s largest beach, you can go for a walk along its long stretches of gorgeous golden sand that’s ideal for sunbathing. They have plenty of space for picnics, so you can bring our Picnic for Two and enjoy wine and lobster rolls. There’s plenty of parking nearby and it’s only 2.5 miles from the inn so there’s no need to worry about excessive travel time!

Riverhead Beach

One of the best beachside locations for outdoor adventurers, it’s conveniently located at the mouth of Forest River and near Marblehead Harbor. You can take advantage of the area’s calmer waters to paddleboard and kayak with plenty of space to explore. It’s a bit further away at 2.8 miles, but still close enough to easily transport any equipment needed for an unforgettable day on the water.

Preston Beach

Shared between the towns of Marblehead and Swampscott, this beach is known for its particularly calm waters and scenic vistas. Make sure to bring a camera and swimsuit for a great swimming area and some prime photography spots, especially around sunrise! Parking is a bit more limited than Devereux and it’s the furthest beach of the bunch at 3.5 miles, so we recommend going during off hours or on a weekday.
